VLSCI supports travel for 6 students to SC09 conference
Wednesday 28th October 2009
The VLSCI is providing support for six postgraduate students to attend a workshop at the SC09 conference, November 14th - 29th 2009 in Portland Oregon. SC09 is the major international conference and exhibition on super computing technological development, innovation, and education. The students are attending the Early Adopters Ph.D. Workshop: “Building the Next Generation of Application Scientists” which is being led by David Abramson and Wojtec Goschinski of Monash University.
The students taking part in the workshop will present their postgraduate work in Life Sciences Computation to a panel of super-computing experts for feedback. The funding is part of the VLSCI's strategy to open opportunities for further skills development in Life Sciences Computation and is supported by the State Government of Victoria.
The six students are undertaking postgraduate research at a number of Victorian Institutions, including Deakin University, La Trobe University, Monash University and the University of Melbourne.
Congratulations to:
- Philip Church, Deakin University, "EXP-PAC: an e-research system for the upload, management and comparison of of microarray data"
- Christopher J. Butler, Monash University, "In-silico analysis of the effect of shear on thrombus growth"
- Sarah Clark, Monash University, "Fluctuating hydrodynamics in confined suspensions of swimming bacteria"
- Hien Phan, La Trobe University, "Small-step parallelism for enumeration of combinatorial objects: a potential application in life sciences"
- Slave Petrovski, The University of Melbourne, "Computational Genomics: The Development of Multigenic Epilepsy Pharmacogenomic Models from High Dimensional Genome Wide Data"
- Thomas Gale, University of Melbourne, "Computational kidney modelling - whole organ behaviour from local function"
The VLSCI will be making further grants available for researchers in Life Sciences Computation to participate in major national and international meetings.
