Milestones
It is expected that within 2009:
- the Life Sciences Computation Centre (LSCC) will be underway.
- Partner selected
- Initial compute systems negotiated
- Director appointed
- Initial staff appointed: support initial uptake.
- Installation of initial systems: a "10%-system" operational (<100kW, <5 racks space)
- Initial research projects underway, particularly in the Parkville Precinct and at Monash
- Training programs underway.
The plan for the Peak Computing Facility (PCF) includes a 2-stage procurement of computing: a 10% system in 2009 and a 90% system in 2011-12. The goal is for this facility to provide the top supercomputer in life sciences internationally.
The objectives for 2013 and beyond are to:
- Achieve a strong user base including: uptake by University and "Parkville Precinct" researchers; Victoria, national and international collaborations.
- Enable excellent research outputs (quality and quantity).
- Deliver the major compute facility ("90%-system") negotiated, installed.
- Employ at least 30 expert staff on the program.
- Have a sustainability model in place by the end of 2012.
- And building from the LSCC and PCF into other research areas.
